Sparring Timer

Most gyms spar in three-minute rounds with one minute between, because that is the round the sport is fought in. Five-minute rounds are usual where the sport is: MMA and grappling.

Live, and already set to 3:00 rounds with 1:00 between. It is free, it needs no account, and once the page has loaded it keeps running with the wifi off. Open it full screen →

Common gym practice rather than a rule — nobody governs how long a sparring round is.

Questions

How long should a sparring round be?

Three minutes for striking, five for MMA and grappling — match the round the sport is fought in.

How much rest between rounds?

One minute is standard. Shortening it to thirty seconds is a conditioning choice, not a sparring one.

Can everyone see it from across the mat?

That is what it is built for. The digits fill the screen and the whole thing is legible from the far wall.

Ask your coach to put this on the gym TV. It is free, it works on anything with a browser, and it runs on its own once it is up.

Gyms that want their own name, logo and colors on it instead of ours pay $99 once — no subscription, no per-screen fee. How that works →
